Stephanie Winker received her first musical education in her hometown, Tübingen, and later with Gaby van Riet in Stuttgart.

After graduating from the local Steiner School, she received a full grant to study in New York with Jeanne Baxtresser at the Manhattan School of Music and the Juilliard School.

After receiving a Bachelor of Music in 2000, she moved to Berlin, enrolled at HfM Hanns Eisler and completed her studies with a Diploma (with E. Grünenthal) and Konzertexamen (with Jaques Zoon), while simultaneously starting her orchestral career as principal flutist first with Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, later Konzerthausorchester Berlin, Berliner Staatsoper and finally Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, where she stayed for ten years until 2014 and frequently appeared as a soloist.

Since 2004, she has been a member of the Ma‘alot Quintet, which has led to concerts in Germany, Europe, Asia, and the Americas. The ensemble’s cooperation with the labels Dabringhaus & Grimm and AVI earned them two Echo Klassik awards and many beautiful recordings.

Since 2013 she has been a faculty-member of the HfMDK Frankfurt, leading a flute studio and teaching masterclasses in Germany and abroad.

Stephanie remains a sought-after guest principal with orchestras in Germany and abroad and is an active chamber musician, with much of her work connected to the Sommerkonzerte Volkenroda, a festival she founded in 2012 and has been Artistic Director of since.

She lives with her husband and three children in Stuttgart.
